The Canadian government has granted refugee statue to a White South African due to racial persecution in his home country, a first in the nation’s history.
31-year-old Brandon Huntley from Cape Town said he was constantly called a “white dog” and “settler” by Black South Africans back home. He was also robbed 7 times and stabbed three times by Black South Africans since his home country ended Apartheid in 1994.
“There’s a hatred of what we did to them and it’s all about the color of your skin,” Huntley told the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Board.

The evidence Huntley provided showed “a picture of indifference and inability or unwillingness of the South African government to protect White South Africans from persecution by African South Africans,” Board Chairman William Davis said. “I find the claimant would stand out like a sore thumb due to his color in any part of the country.”
Huntley’s lawyer, Russell Kaplan, believes this is the first time a White person has been granted refugee status due to racial persecution.
In addition to Huntley’s testimony, the board heard from Kaplan’s sister, Laura Kaplan, 41, who left her native South Africa for Canada last year.
She testified that she had been threatened by armed black South Africans and said her brother Robert was left for dead after being shot three times and tortured during a violent burglary in 1997.
Both Laura and Huntley gave evidence in camera in a full-day hearing on August 18, presenting 30 – 40 newspaper clippings as evidence of life in South Africa. “‘One article exhibited was published in (the Daily Sun in 2004) by Africa Ka Mahamba. (It was) entitled ‘Taking from whites is not a crime’,'” Kaplan said. The article quotes the leader of the ‘Uhuru Cultural Club’ as telling youngsters who attended a Human Rights Day celebration to steal from Whites because “it is the right thing to do.”
“The judgment was a direct criticism of the SA Government,” Kaplan said. He said Affirmative Action and Black Economic Empowerment were two of the aspects that were taken into account in considering Huntley’s application for refugee status in Canada. “These legislated policies, even though there is an explanation for them, are discriminatory.”
Ronnie Mamoepa
South Africa Home Affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa angrily responded to the decision, saying he was “disgusted” at the ruling.
Mamoepa said the department had heard about the “baseless allegations against our people and our country”.
“It would have been courteous for the Canadian government to allow the South African government to respond to the allegations,” Mamoepa said.
More than 3,000 White South African farmers and farm workers have been murdered in Plaasmorde attacks, the characteristic home invasions and murders perpetuated by Blacks against Whites, since the so-called “turn over” in 1994. Thousands more have been killed by Blacks since 1994, yet the ANC government will not release official statistics.

It was approved in the ‘Old’ Apartheid days…..NOW it isn’t? Hundreds of South African people lived in exile during that time, both Black and White, who feared for their lives!
Although I love my country, I live in constant fear!! THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!! South Africa has a lot of problems that need to be dealt with fast; crime should be on the top of that list. I not only fear for myself but for the visitors that hopefully will come to SA next year for the 2010 world cup! These tourists will become key targets!!!! Some of us were kids in 1994 – eligible to vote – we wanted justice and change – we got retrenched – we were given BEE , we have to step aside for the majority – we have to hide from the majority – homes grew higher outside walls – electric fencing – security cameras – crime has a picture in S.A. most crimes committed are black people targeting , attacking , torturing whites. I’ve been a victim, I’ve been called names, i am the white trash that wanted things to be different in SA, believe me it is unbearingly different, some of my family members have been tortured with boiling water from a kettle and an 82 have been raped after they burned her so badly, then they decided to brake almost every bone in her frail old body. They called a white trash and a white bitch. You drive around knowing its a good day if you haven’t had a gun against your head, this has already happened three times in the last three years. You lock yourself in your home and why would you ask, i fear, and the reason, i fear because I’m white, understand this – i do not fear that a white person would come into my house and kill my family – no , the pattern, and the fact is that the psychological war against the white man , proves on a daily basis that his own skin colour is not the one he should fear. Only the victims of violent crime can advise as to whether the crimes against them were in fact racially motivated or not. The ANC cries foul but what have they or the South African Government done in terms of indentifying or researching what percentage of crime against black or white South Africans is in fact racially motivated? The answer is nothing. The fact of the matter is that there has been insufficient action in terms of curbing violent crime never mind crime that is supposedly racially motivated. In many cases white South Africans claim that violent crime is racially motivated and who is to prove them wrong. Possibly, once and for all, the ANC and Government should show their determination to rid this country of crime. Being defensive and confrontational towards the Canadians over this issue only proves to the Canadians that their decision was justified. Making racist remarks and branding white South Africans as sell outs does not help matters either.
i am a white South African living in Cape Town, and this story makes me sick to my stomach. I do not feel threatened or discriminated against in my country. I am not sticking it out, and i have no intention of ever leaving. My children will be raised here, and they will taught to love their country. Yes, crime is a problem. Yes, many white people are targeted but guess what- so are many, many black people. In fact, crime is worse in townships and other traditionally black areas than it is in ‘white’ areas. I have read a lot of racist comments on this page, and as far as i am concerned if Canada wants them then South Africa is a lot better off. And unfortunately this ruling is giving these racists something to argue with, as well as portraying an extremely negative image South Africa. This ruling will do nothing to help South Africa.

But don’t worry, Kirsten. Most of the professional, educated whites have already left and many more do so on a daily basis. We all have stories to tell. We all have experiences to share. And some of us make a point of lambasting organisations in the 1st world still intent on supplying hand-outs to Africa. Because it all merely supports the criminal agenda. Good for Canada. S Africa is well on it’s way to third world status. Crimes against whites are endemic and whites with the resources to do so are leaving in droves. Last year one government official said that those who do not like crime are free to leave which this gentleman obviously did. As a white South African I am disguisted by Brandon, the Canadian government and all the sick racist comments on this page. In South Africa black women are three times more likely to get raped than their statistically privillaged white counterparts. I ask everyone on this page to read some testimonials from the TRC and understand the suffering the black majority endured from the apartheid government. Yes we have crime, I too have been affected, but it could never be called reverse racism. As a white South African I don’t need to walk around with a pass or get special permission to work in certain parts of the country and I can attend all schools and universities (provided in some cases you have the money- which statistically most white South Africans do). Reverse Racism- what a fallacy!

I am a saffie living in Australia. I can tell you that the tens of thousands of saffies arriving here each year are mostly very highly educated experienced and hopefully intellegent people. They did not leave RSA but were driven and can all support their own refugee claims. Believe me the mass of South Africans know what is going and and the truth forced them to leave their homeland and nation. South Africans we still are but without a country of our own. Canada is courageous – Uphold Huntley’s White Refugee Status!
Dear Sirs,
I wish to commend the IRB for making the honourable, brave and correct decision.
I write to share another truth with you from another South African “second class” citizen!
We are being persecuted, deprived of our rights, prejudiced, discriminated against and our lives are endangered because of:
1. Persecution and discrimination of whites due to Affirmative Action and Employment Equity policies of the state.
2. Fear of physical and psychological harm due to unacceptably high levels of violent crime in South Africa.
Allow me to offer my background as another example.
1. As the principle “breadwinner” in the family, I am unable to secure suitable employment in South Africa because I am European (my Great grandfather was Irish) and that the Affirmative Action and Employment Equity (AA / EE) policies of the state preclude me from suitable and reasonable employment because of my race.
• I have often been advised by recruitment agencies in SA that as I am white, I will not be considered for employment, even though many jobs are not advertised as AA or EE, they are in fact exclusively for persons of colour.
• Vacancies at my level of seniority requiring my qualifications and expertise are now predominantly reserved for male or female persons of either African, Indian or mixed race ethnicity.
• Since October 2008, I have diligently and professionally been trying to find work, but without success.
• I have applied directly for over 120 jobs (excluding the numerous online applications submitted) and am still unemployed. I have records of these applications and supporting documentation is available.
• My wife has also been unable to secure permanent employment (because of her race), and is presently taking on ad hoc work (well below her skills level) at the moment. This is degrading and demeaning to her as because she is European, even she as a female is excluded from consideration at a senior management level.
• I have an internationally accredited Project Management qualification from London and extensive international Systems IT Management experience & skills. These are skills considered by the EU as criteria applicable to skilled worker status and now on the critical skills shortage lists of many nations. Regrettably due to institutionalised prejudice, I’m still unable to secure gainful employment in South Africa
• I am a 42 year old white male, married to an Afrikaaner and have a 15 year old son.
We are being discriminated against and persecuted because of our race and are unable to obtain suitable employment that is fair and reasonable and at a level appropriate to our skills, international expertise and qualification, because we are white.
2. My family and I live in fear as we have been victim’s of crime which is still rampant in this country, even though state propaganda states otherwise.
• I have been held up at knife point by a gang of African men and was robbed and my life threatened.
• Our house was broken into and our belongings stolen on two occasions.
• Due to unemployment, we have even tried to sell our furniture to generate income to sustain ourselves, only to have some items stolen from us again.
• We are afraid to be in the streets after dark as it is unsafe.
• My cousin was attached in his home by a gang of African males whilst his wife hid with the children, refusing to open the bedroom as he was smashed to pieces.
• My uncle was shot in the head at point blank range, supposedly because it was a carjacking, but the gang left his Mercedes, only because of the bloody mess.
• When travelling in urban areas, we are in constant fear of being targeted & hijacked or being accosted as we are “supposedly affluent” European’s.
• Our family farm is unsafe to live on, so we left the area and now rent elsewhere.
• This fear is further based on the fact that our neighbours, an elderly white couple were violently attacked in their farm house and the husband shot and the wife assaulted.
• Previously, good family friends on a farm were assaulted by African males, the husband killed with a spade whilst the wife was brutally attacked and left fro dead. They are only 1 of the 3000+ reported cases in SA so far.
• On more than one occasion, intruders have staked out the farm and we have had to resort to discharging a firearm to ward off suspected thugs.
• Attacks on white farm dwellers has reached epidemic proportions and deaths continue on an almost daily basis, often going unreported internationally as our citizens and the world has become desensitised to this horror. This further perpetuates our fears.
We believe our fears and persecution is real and reasonable.
We perceive that our personal safety / welfare is under genuine threat and we no longer feel safe in South Africa.
We also believe that as “white citizens” we are more prone to acts of violence.
WHITEWASHING OUR UNIVERSAL HUMAN RIGHTS
We believe our UN sanctioned Universal Human Rights are being violated, namely;
No 1 – We are all born free & equal (the AA / EE policy violates this)
No 2 – Don’t discriminate (again AA / EE is oppressive and discriminatory in nature)
No 3 – The Right to be safe (crime has impacted our family directly and we are afraid and unsafe)
No 6 – Universal Rights – (we have our rights wherever we are, sadly in SA some are ignored by the state even whilst the “Rule of Law” is being flaunted by the ruling political party)
No 7 – Equal before the law – (Our “liberal” Constitution specifically permits AA and enforces EE, stating it’s not discriminatory, this is racism reversed. Therefore, as ‘persons of European origin, we are not being treated equal)
No 22 – Social security – (as a white person, some state benefits like child grants whilst I’m unemployed are “not available” to me to support my family whilst they are available freely to Africans.)
No 23 – Workers Rights – (AA precludes me from free employment of my choosing & skill, furthermore we must endure Black Economic Employment policies that prejudice white owned and operated businesses, this is discriminatory)
No 30 – No one can take your Rights – (in SA, reverse racial, cultural and ethnic prejudice, discrimination against whites and the treat of crime is a constant plague we face, where the state is apathetic to our plight and continues to violating our rights)
We therefore wish to explore the practicalities of exercising specifically, our following Universal Human Rights, being No 13 (Freedom of Movement), No 14 (The Right to Asylum), No 18 (Freedom of Thought) and No 15 (The Right to a Nationality) as we and others seek Refugee status in civilised countries soon.
IN CLOSING
Don’t let political pressure from the South African government hide the truth!
Let us white South Africans who are afraid, persecuted and discriminated against flee and become assets to the nations we seek protection from….. for Canada, the EU, Australia and the US will be richer for it!
Grant those who apply for legitimate sanctuary….. Protection!
