South African Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has publicly rebuked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement that the Holocaust teaches the Jewish state it should always defend itself, insisting instead that “it can never get security through fences, walls and guns.”
“In South Africa, they tried to get security from the barrel of a gun. They never got it. They got security when the human rights of all were recognized and respected,” Tutu told Israeli newspapaer Haaretz in an exclusive interview.
Tutu said the West was consumed with guilt and regret toward Israel because of the Holocaust, “as it should be.”

“But who pays the penance? The penance is being paid by the Arabs, by the Palestinians. I once met a German ambassador who said Germany is guilty of two wrongs. One was what they did to the Jews. And now the suffering of the Palestinians.”
Tutu gave the interview during the final leg of a West Bank tour of The Elders, a group of world leaders that includes former US president Jimmy Carter and former Irish president Mary Robinson. Both Carter and Robinson have been harshly criticized for their views on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and viewed as anti-Semitic by some Israeli supporters.
The South African Archbishop Emeritus addressed charges of anti-Semitism as “unfortunate,” adding that Jewish-American organizations often use the charge to silence critics.
“That is unfortunate, because my own positions are actually derived from the Torah. You know God created you in God’s image. And we have a God who is always biased in favor of the oppressed,” Tutu said.
Tutu also came out in support of Ben-Gurion University professor Neve Gordon’s call to apply selective sanctions on Israel, and compared Israeli-Palestinian checkpoints to those between Swaziland and South Africa during the days of Apartheid and National Party rule.

Len – in defense of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, I must point out that it appears to be you, who has either little, or otherwise very “selective” knowledge of the Torah which is well summed up by Rabbi Hillel’s words. “That which is hateful to you, do not do to your neighbour. That is the whole Torah, the rest is commentary.” If you (I’m guessing you are either Israeli, Ideological Zionist or both) would stop for one moment and REALLY put yourself and your family in the shoes of the Palestinians whose land you stole and whose lives you wrecked, just maybe you could stop killing and oppressing them.
Your inhuman maniac actions in Gaza are creating a whole new generation of people who you would call “terrorists” – I call most of them “crazy people”, people who have literally been driven out of their minds by the torture perpetrated by the REAL terrorists – the Israeli government and her supporters. What have they done with all the billions of dollars that was given to them, which infact they received more funding than Israel, and that would be from the west and others like Iran and Syria. Civil Rights?! What does this Anglican archbishop know about civil rights?! South Africa is virtually uninhabitable thanks to Communist-sympathizing degenerate radicals like Desmond Tutu. Ever since white rule ended in Soth Africa, it’s become just another barbaric cesspool like every other country on that continent. The ANC (which is a Communist political organization) rules that country and the crime/murder/rape rate is unparalleled in the world. No one in South Africa has any civil rights anymore! Sure, Tutu jets around the world rubbing elbows with the Liberals and the Marxists as they dine on lobster and drink champagne while the people in his country live in abject fear of their lives.
There’s a reason why the Liberal/Marxist media no longer covers what’s going on in South Africa because if they did they would have to compare current-day society versus the prosperity and security under white rule. Sure there was discrimination under white rule, but at least you were prosperous and were safe – even for the blacks who lived under it.
