Desmond Tutu Endorses Hamas

Desmond Tutu

South African Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu said Wednesday that Israel and other parties have no other choice but to negotiate with Hamas, while calling on the Islamic terrorist group to halt attacks on Israeli territory.

Drawing parallels between the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and that of the ANC’s battle against Apartheid in South Africa, Tutu said, “you don’t make peace with friends. You negotiate with those who are regarded as pariahs.”

“It’s the same thing that happened in South Africa for a very long time,” Tutu said during an exclusive interview with the Ma’an News Agency in Ramallah. “The Apartheid government said they wouldn’t negotiate with Nelson Mandela, and so on – and they had to.”

Tutu continued the parallel by noting that as he was critical of Spear of the Nation (Umkhonto We Sizwe), the militant wing of the ANC, he has also told Hamas to stop its launching of missiles into Israel. “When I met with [Hamas leader in Gaza Ismail] Haniyeh I said, quite categorically, that the firing of Qassam rockets into Sderot were as much a gross violation as Israel’s incursions,” Tutu said.

Tutu gave the interview during the final leg of a West Bank tour of  The Elders, a group of world leaders that includes former US president Jimmy Carter and former Irish president Mary Robinson. Both Carter and Robinson have been harshly criticized for their views on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and viewed as anti-Semitic by some Israeli supporters.

This same Desmond Tutu has an opinion on Israel/Palestine? Oh for goodness sakes let’s listen. Not.

He has no moral authority outside his pew. Keep a lid on it … Desmond.
