Liberals across America whined loudly Monday after the Obama administration announced its dropping of a proposed public option to health care reform.
A visibly upset Former DNC Chairman Howard Dean stomped his feet to reporters, proclaiming “you really can’t do health reform” without allowing the government to compete with private insurers. “Let’s not say we’re doing health reform without a public option.”
Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota made the announcement on FOX News Sunday that they would no long “chase that rabbit” because they did not have the 60 votes required to overcome a Senate filibuster. “The fact of the matter is there are not the votes in the United States Senate for a public option. There never have been,” Conrad said.
A public option would theoretically cover only those who were not covered by private health insurance. That argument was loudly disputed by opponents, who cited parts of the Senate bill that would eventually end private coverage. A widely-disputed number of “47 million uninsured” was also quickly shot down with facts.
