Months after winning a lawsuit that said he was fired from his University of Colorado job for political reasons, Nutty Beringian Professor Ward Churchill has failed to become reinstated as a professor there.
The Tuesday ruling handed down by Denver District Court judge Larry J. Naves noted the university’s governing Board of Regents “occurred with sufficient procedural protections.” Judge Naves also noted Churchill had only won $1 from the April ruling, indicating he had not suffered any real damages.
The University of Colorado welcomed the new ruling, noting the judge had “appropriately applied the law.” “This ruling recognizes that the regents have to make important and difficult decisions. The threat of litigation should not be used to influence those decisions,” said University President Bruce Benson in a press statement.
Churchill’s lawyer David Lane said the ruling means people can be fired for the things they say, or even their race or religion. He plans an appeal of the ruling.
