R&B singer R. Kelly has been questioned by South African police for his possible role in an investment scam that allegedly swindled pensioners out of millions of dollars.
Durban woman, Busisiwe Priscilla Zakwe, was arrested in 2005 for a scam that promised investors a hefty return from an R. Kelly concert that never happened. Zakwe claims she deposited R10.5 million (US $1.3 million) into the singer’s bank account.
Kelly, who is in South Africa to perform, will be questioned Friday by investigators, who have already visited the singer’s managers.
Zakwe faces 67 charges of fraud and one of violating the Banking Act by running a scheme without permission. She allegedly duped 50 people, many of them pensioners.
Kelly was indicted in 2002 on 21 counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor, for which he was acquitted for in 2008. He has sold 35 million records worldwide.
