Obama Admits US Role In ’53 Iran Coup

In his historic speech to the Muslim world Thursday, Barack Obama became the first sitting US president to publicly state that America took part in the 1953 coup in Iran.

“In the middle of the Cold War, the United States played a role in the overthrow of a democratically elected Iranian government,” Obama told a packed audience at Cairo University in Egypt. The quote can be heard in this video from Obama’s speech at the 6:15 mark.

Obama’s claim made reference to the coup of Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddeq in 1953. It has been long believed that the CIA, backed by British oil interests, overthrew Mosaddeq in an effort called “Operation Ajax” after Mosaddeq nationalized the Iranian oil industry. Until then, Britain owned and operated the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, which was the country”s largest single financial asset for many decades.

Obama pointed to this event as the beginning of a “tumultuous history” between the United States and Iran. That history eventually led to the 1979 Islamic Revolution, and American support of Saddam Hussein during the eight-year Iran-Iraq War of the 1980′s.

Obama’s statement comes at a time when partisan American politics is conflicting with American foreign policy.  US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and several other leading Democrats recently came under fire for stating Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EITs) such as waterboarding used during the Bush Administration are “torture” while having knowledge of their use as early as September 2002.

Since Obama made his claim last Thursday, it has been overlooked by mainstream American media, who have focused on his equally-groundbreaking definition of “Palestine,” Israeli “occupation” of Palestinian territory, and call for a two-state solution.

Iranian press was not so shy to jump on the concession Obama made. “For many Iranians, the coup demonstrated duplicity by the United States, which presented itself as a defender of freedom but did not hesitate to use underhand methods to get rid of a democratically elected government to suit its own economic and strategic interests,” wrote Iranian state media, which referred to the coup as American “skullduggery” and went on to accuse the United States of overthrowing Guatemalan president Jacobo Arbenz Guzman in 1954.

He should shut his mouth. The ragheads will replay his admission and use it against us. Ragheads are not normal.

Why doesn’t he just give them our nuclear unlock codes and be done with it?

The great Frank is right. Only someone “on the down low” could grovel so before lesser leaders.

The Foreign Occupier of the White House, is also not the Manchurian Candidate, but the Mohamadanist Candidate! This is why he’s pandering to the Mohamadanists! Russian troops were in Parthia when the Red was their president, and threatening the Parthian Gulf. Ike got them out. The left loves to use the cliche, “democratically elected”. Hitler was democractically put in, so I guess they feel that if we had the chance to get rid of him before WW2, we wouldn’t have! Chavez is also “democratically elected”, except his flying monkey rigged both elections. And their god Castro, was never elected, so why all the recriminations over trying to excecute this murdering son of a bitch by the left? The M.C. is a stone Red and repeats all the propaganda that the Reds used against us in the Cold War. Get it straight, he HATES America!

    Unbelievable!

The man is being honest and trying to create trust, but you people just don’t seem to get it!

Sad, really sad and ironic that the US President is being praised, acknowledged for his authority and sense of fairness and honesty everywhere he goes in the world by the world public, yet you people write all this garbage!

That certainly explains why Bush was elected twice !

  7. Endgame says

Hey James, if I told you I was going to kill you, how would you build my trust in you? Would you confess other peoples' wrong doings? Or perhaps a few sorry(s) are in order. I know… How about getting on your knees and…

Yeah I”m not going to trust a “leader” whose wife didn’t like her country until he ran for president… I also don’t trust him because he keeps talking with no actual positive action… how many billions of dollars did he dump into the auto industry and into banks??? guess what… that came from working American’s pockets… see American’s are peculiar… if we don’t like something or can’t afford it we’re not going to buy it… if a company wants to succeed, they need to make a product that their customers will buy… in America they have the liberty to do that… they don’t need to run crying to the White House for a band-aide….

  10. Danstermeister says

Wow Becky, did I just see you write, “if we don’t like something or can’t afford it we’re not going to buy it” ?

Can you tell me what this latest foreclosure crisis was all about then? Because I thought a lot of it had to do with greedy Americans who were buying homes they could not hope to afford, by greedy Americans selling off these worthless securities into a market that could also not afford it.

Or were you trying to be funny?
