You have to love the commentary of Doberman from I Luv SA on IOL reporting of three policemen caught in illegal possession of firearms. Enjoy:
Am I missing something?! Reading this article I had to check that it wasn’t satirical. It isn’t. I am gobsmacked that people are cogitating the fate of three policemen found guilty of a crime as if it is a decision that should involve deliberation at all – that is, whether these cops who are now criminals should remain in the police force. For Pete’s sake, they should be kicked out on their arses instantly! Criminals have no place in the police force. No wonder the SAPS is indeed a farce. Makes Commandant Eric Lassard and his ‘tards look like geniuses.
SAPS is not a haven for criminals – police
The SAPS is not a haven for criminals and the three police officers who pleaded guilty to unlawfully being in possession of guns and ammunition taken in an armed robbery from a Durban police station should be fired. (“..should…”?!)
This was the strong message sent out by the ministry of police on Monday, and other organisations, such as Gun Free South Africa (GFSA), SA Gunowners’ Association (Saga) and the Institute for Security Studies (ISS). (strong message…woooo..watch out criminals in the police – you MAY get fired if caught)
The bodies criticised the Durban Regional Court ruling which handed down a suspended sentence to all three policemen after they pleaded guilty to firearms charges last Friday.
Constable Bongani Dlamini, 38, and Inspectors Linda Cibane, 43, and Sabelo Ngcobo, 43, of Durban North, were arrested after they were found with four of the 15 guns that had been taken from Boscombe Terrace, an SAPS and Metro Police Operations Centre on the Durban beachfront, on February 26.
Hangwani Mulaudzi, spokesperson for the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa, slammed the incident and called for the three policemen to be fired immediately, saying that the ministry did not wish to be associated with criminals. (ssh, shh..less talking, more doing)
“Our members are tasked with protecting the lives and property of all South Africans and that is what we and the country expect from them. The SAPS is not a haven for criminals,” he said. (ha ha..yeah, good one)
Police spokesman Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said the policemen were expected to appear before an internal disciplinary tribunal. He added that the SAPS would not tolerate corruption or criminality in its ranks. (fire their asses now, why waste time on a freakin’ tribunal? It tells other corrupt cops, hey, get caught once, always a second chance..)
He said there was a strong possibility that the officers could be dismissed from their jobs because of the serious nature of the crime they committed. (“strong possibility”? “could”?)
“Not only does this tarnish the image of the police, but it also becomes very difficult for people to trust us in the future. (‘future’ my white ass, we don’t trust you NOW)
“These officers bought the firearms knowing very well that they were stolen from a police station and that tells us that they can’t be trusted to uphold the law. I doubt if they will have any chance of remaining in the police force,” he said. (check the genius mind of an IQ 67 ticking over…)
Dr Johan Burger, of the ISS, said that after the disciplinary tribunal, there was a likelihood that the policemen would be fired. (et tu..?)
Martin Hood, of Saga, said the police officers should have been given a stiffer sentence. “The police are there to uphold the law and act more responsibly than the average citizen.” (about time someone said the right stuff)
KZN GFSA chairperson Nareshnie Maharaj said the incident was a serious offence that created an atmosphere of mistrust and doubt. (ditto)
Firearms had to be licensed, but the bad example set by the police officers could encourage members of the public to act in a similar manner.

There’s an American TV show from the 1970′s called “C.H.I.P.S” which is about the California Highway Patrol…. perhaps a TV show based on the South African police force would be called “C.H.I.M.P.S”?
I remember that one! They used to air it in South Africa too.
