Radio Host Fired For “Criminalien” Remark

Jay Severin

Jay Severin

Libertarian talk radio host Jay Severin has been fired from Boston’s WTKK-FM after the former MSNBC contributor made several comments critical of illegal aliens from Mexico.

Severin referred to Mexicans as “criminaliens,” “primitives,” “leeches,” and exporters of “women with mustaches and VD.” He also said local hospital emergency rooms are so full of Mexicans that they look like “Mexican condos.”

However, some listeners and industry insiders note that Severin has been falling in the ratings lately, and coupled with his unusually high salary, may have simply been ditched in these hard economic times.

wtkkThis is not the first time Severin has been condemned for his controversial views on minorities. On a 2004 broadcast, he compared American Muslims to a fifth column; when a caller suggested the United States should befriend them, Severin responded: “You think we should befriend them; I think we should kill them.”

WTKK owner Great Media has been surprisingly mum on the sacking, and has only said that Severin has been “indefinetly suspended” from his show. The company has bleached all discussion on Severin from their website.

In an e-mail, Severin, a powerful, bombastic voice whose views often mirror those of true Americans and who rarely lacks something to say, referred questions to his lawyer. “I am simply not at liberty to discuss it at this time,” he wrote.

Referring to those who enter the country illegally as “Criminaliens” doesn’t seem like much of an offense to me.

  2. Lamont Cranston says

He’s still a boring piece of shit broadcaster. They probably needed an excuse to can him anyway.

Whatever happened to first amendment rights ?

  4. ''Rob says

first amendment has absolutely nothing to do with this…nothing. This is a privately owned company and they have the right to set any limits they want on what their employee can say on the air.

first amendment ??? not even close

First Amendment means nothing when you become a socialist state.

    @ Lamont:

What has that got to do with anything? He can be boring as hell, he is still supposed to be able to exercise his rights.

Look at illegals in any country and decide for yourself how intent they are in operating within the boundaries of law. The mere fact that they are in a country they have no right in being says a lot in itself now, doesn’t it?

Johann: The first amendment gives Jay the right to stand on a soap box on Boston Common and say whatever he wants. There is no right to be on the radio.

“….whose views often mirror those of true Americans”

Shocked and awed, We the People Are, that your ilk would bother to mirror “TRUE” Americans…. who are the only TRUE Americans and not melanin deprived…the Native American tribes.

Soooo much Kafka, so little time

Pardon my intrusion, but curious minds like to know:

Now that the author here has reaffiliated his ilk with the human race and TRUE Americans:

can We the People assume you’ll stop killing …..and only kill for what you need “to put food on your family?

Maybe our taxes should fund a 12-step program to help ease those heinous withdrawal symptoms due to intellectual and spiritual constipation that has blocked the party voters’ comprehension of what a Christian Nation really means.

Maybe, just maybe then… you can stop being the next door kid’s imaginary friend and become a TRUE American.

    @ Daivd:

I am no expert when it comes to US constitution, so I will not argue on that point.

However, even if my assumption about First Amendment is incorrect in this case, it still does not change the fact that he called a group of people renowned for their illegal activites (the first being somewhere they have no legal right to be) just that.

The station may be trying to re-negotiate his contract–note that the webpage does mention him on their index page (in a disclaimer about his suspension) and yesterday, as they aired the Florida-based “Schnitt Show” in his place, the newscaster
said, “Now back to the Schnitt Show, in for Jay Severin”. I’m inclined to think they’re trying to lowball his salary and bring him back. His ratings have suffered but maybe they want to keep him.

Otherwise, wouldn’t they have come out by now and said he was gone for good?

Good observations and point. How is The Schnitt Show, anyway?
