You Don’t Know What’s Coming Tomorrow

Kay Starr
Way back when, Kay Starr had a big hit with SIDE BY SIDE:
Don’t know what’s coming tomorrow,
Maybe it’s trouble and sorrow. . . that’s exactly the point.
You don’t know what’s coming tomorrow.
And that’s why Socialists can’t come up with an economic plan. They look to order what is the product of tomorrow that the consumers are in turn ordered to consume. The Socialists determine for the consumer what the consumer wants; what the consumer needs; what the consumer will buy. The Socialist controls production, distribution as well as consumption. The Socialist destroys the economy, the Socialist destroys the future.
Oh, we ain’t got a barrel of money,
Maybe we’re ragged and funny;
But we’ll travel along, singin’ a song,
Side by side.
The Socialist thinks that they can order the economy to conform to their wishes.
No way!
Capitalism always Wins in the end.
Don’t know what’s comin’ tomorrow,
Maybe it’s trouble and sorrow;
But we’ll travel the road, sharin’ our load,
Side by Side

Friedrich von Hayek
As I was saying to Johann on THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE, Friday, April 10 – Friedrich von Hayek wrote how WE must battle the Socialists and refute the Socialists and prove the Socialists wrong; an ongoing battle that he wrote about in THE FATAL CONCEIT: The Errors of Socialism. This book he wrote towards the end of his life; a long life in which he battled the Socialists through all the years; an ongoing war. Yes, a CONCEIT, a FATAL CONCEIT. They think they have the power to control the economy. They think they can order the consumers to obey their plan for the economy. They cannot control ambition, they cannot control passion, they cannot control ideas. The free economy WILL prevail. The many consumers, the many capitalists will determine where they want to INVEST their resources, how they want to EXCHANGE their money for products, how they want to IMPROVE their lives, how they want to SPEND their time, what they want to DESIGN, what they want to ENJOY, how they want to LIVE. No governmental power can make those decisions for them.
Through all kinds of weather,
What if the sky should fall;
Just as long as we’re together,
It doesn’t matter,
Doesn’t matter at all.
The people at various points in time determine what they WANT. Trends are started; ideas are formed; fashions come into being. A certain style of dress develops, a certain song becomes a hit. The people cannot be commanded: WE THE PEOPLE make the determination.
Von Hayek uses the German word Machbarkeit. It’s not that a government manufactures the goods of consumption for the people. It’s that the economic times move the people in a certain direction. Technology develops, the economy evolves and the product is produced. The Economy Evolves. The Free Economy determines what is manufactured.
Machbarkeit.
I’m quite certain that MAN wanted to fly long before Orville and Wilbur Wright succeeded with their airplane, but MAN did not have the rudimentary technology at their disposal. It all came together, at a certain point of time, when one thing follows the other, until circumstances finally bring us to the point of actual development. Freedom of thought is necessary, not government intervention.
When they’ve all had their quarrels and parted,
We’ll be the same as we started;
Just travelin’ along, singin’ a song,
Side by Side.
Those who are so conceited that only they are able to tell the masses what to do, they will fail. Socialists will always fail. Von Hayek wrote “How What Cannot Be Known Cannot Be Planned” – You don’t know what’s coming tomorrow; you don’t know what’s going to be; you don’t know what’s going to happen. You cannot say that your plans are tomorrow’s reality. He reminds us that Bertrand Russell defined liberty as the ‘absence of obstacles to the realisation of our desires’. Von Hayek states that “it was widely thought by such rationalists [socialists] that a centrally planned economy would deliver not only ‘social justice’, but also a more efficient use of economic resources.” Sound familiar?
Patriots, we must continue this battle. We must expose the Socialists as the Conceited Lot that they are. We must refute them. We must prove them wrong. Economic products that WE THE PEOPLE want will be purchased. Those products that do not adhere to our wants, our needs, will not be purchased. This is a free economy. This is a capitalistic society. WE THE PEOPLE understand what FREEDOM, LIBERTY, and JUSTICE really are. More than our economic freedom is currently at stake. We must do like von Hayek; Battle On Patriots, Battle On.
Dedicated to Johann

I was waiting for the next great article from Cheryl…
You have written such a good piece here that I just have to get hold of this book now. The name sounded familiar when you mentioned it last week and I think my father has a copy.
So true what you say about the free market driven by the free spirit of man, beautifully described by man’s quest for flight.
I was absolutely delighted to speak to you on the show and I am so honored by this dedication! I am going to borrow Brian’s phrase to say thank you to the great lady!
Well said. And so true.
It has been said Democracy is the worst form of government, but is is the best that we have.
Democracy is to socialism as Cadillac is to the horse and buggy. Why these morons want to migrate to socialism clearly shows that the Great Frank of Queens was right many years ago when he stated that liberalism is a mental disorder.
