While Barack Obama intends to give American citizenship to some 25 million illegals from Mexico, he also intends to crack down on some 2,500 – 3,000 Irish who are in the US illegally, reports Ireland’s Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness.
McGuinness told the Irish Assembly that during his week-long trip to the US, which included a rather embarrassing teleprompter moment for Obama, the issue came up constantly.
“The issue of the undocumented Irish came up consistently and persistently at many of the engagements in which we were involved,” McGuinness said. “There is no doubt that it is a matter with which the new Administration will grapple.”
“It is something that we would like to see resolved, because of the obvious pain and difficulty that it imposes, not just on people in the United States — whether from Derry, Fermanagh, Tyrone, Belfast, Dublin, Mayo or Kerry — but also because family difficulties occur, such as people dying,” the deputy First Minister added.
“Hopefully, the new Administration will find a solution sooner rather than later.”
Finally something I agree with from Obongo. The Irish have always blamed their misery on the English but they should rightfully blame it on their love of the whiskey bottle. An apt quote from an Englishman of note is the following:

I’m not sure why 3000 illegal Irish immigrants are worth worrying about. They already speak the language and if they were interested in sucking off the public teat they’d have stayed in Connemara.
They are here illegally. Send them home, just like the mexicans. Abide by the law or stay home.
If they manage to stay long enough, say by the summer, will they be granted amnesty like the rest of the illegals will?

I agree that illegals should be deported; I just don’t see why a specific 3000 – who represent no threat to the country – are worth focusing on when there are millions of illegals in the U.S. Is Obama beholden to the voiceover actors’ union that handles the Lucky Stars and Irish Spring advertising contracts?
