Our language and culture are dying!

Classic right-wing fear-mongering. Could be studied at the forthcoming Karl Rove School of Journalism at Oral Roberts University.

I am a secondary school teacher in the country that gave the world Shakespeare and here's a little anecdote about English as she is spoke and writ these days!

I was marking homework for a year 8 class I had never taught before and was becoming quite frustrated with the standard of spelling and grammar, as well as handwriting. This was not a class that had been identified as being low ability, just an average class of 12 year old kids. Then I came across a piece of work, which was beautifully written, with accurate punctuation (what's that?!!!) and spelling. The child's name looked French and when I was handing back the homework, I asked the young girl, who had a slight accent, where she came from and how long she had been in the UK; Belgium and three months!! That child's command of spoken and written English was the best in the class.
