Australian Government and Australia Post officials are reportedly seething at news of a security lapse that’s resulted in the disappearance of a special edition stamp.
The stamp was commissioned after massive public outcries by philatelic enthusiasts around the world, for not including Frankie in recent stamp sets . None more so than recently aired on The Right Perspective radio show.
It was commissioned to commemorate Queensland dog Frankie, who recently won the 2009 World ‘Roo Hunters Championship.
In a twist of fate, the original print was found to be ‘inverted’. This would’ve made it as famous as the 1918 ‘inverted’ Jenny Stamp. After discovering the flaw, a new lithographic plate was produced and a correctly aligned picture of Frankie and the dead kangaroo was printed.
A spokesman for the Australian Federal Police said it was leaked knowledge of the flawed stamp that had led to it’s ‘disappearance’.

The AFP spokesman said several witnesses gave descriptions of a man and a dog loitering in a park adjacent to the printer’s premises. They described the man as a ‘big boof headed bloke with a large moustache’.The canine was described as an australian sheep dog.
Forensic detectives say they found boot and paw prints around the back of the building near an unlocked door.
A reliable law enforcement source said rumours are circulating that prints of only one inverted stamp and it’s replacement still exist. He also stated they think they’ve been secreted out of the country to the U.S.A., possibly New York. It appears that all other stamps, prints and the lithographic printing plates have been destroyed. This will make the two remaining prints valuable collectors items.
