ANC Youth League (ANCYL) president Julius Malema and some 14 other ANCYL delegates visited the white-Afrikaaner-only enclave Orania Saturday, posting ANC campaign posters on posts inside the Northern Cape town and meeting with officials from the conservative Freedom Front Plus (FF+) political party.

“This is to show that people can campaign everywhere,” Malema told the throng of media that followed him on his visit.

Chief executive of Orania, Frans de Klerk, said the ANCYL had asked for the meeting in advance. De Klerk said the group wanted to visit Orania to “understand the environment.”

“This is part of the ongoing programme of the youth league to engage with minorities as part of the initiative to build one nation and a common sense of patriotism,” the FF+ said.

Malema was the first to arrive, and waited patiently at a petrol station for his associates, chatting with Orania and FF+ officials.

Many of the ANCYL officials took pictures of themselves in front of the Orania coat-of-arms and a sign that read, “welkom in die Afrikaner tuiste (welcome in the Afrikaner home)”.

Orania President Carel Boshoff, Jr. said his meeting with Malema and ANCYL showed there were “differences in aspirations and vision” between them but there was no “shoot out” or “search for control”. Boshoff said he would not rule out further talks with the group, known for its violence and intimidation of political rivals.

After leaving Orania, Malema told reporters, “We thought well-armed Afrikaners would stop the blacks,” adding that he wants to find a way to re-integrate the Afrikaaner-seperatist society back into South Africa.

    What would Verwoerd say?

He’s casing the joint so that he can more easily murder the whites later on at his leisure.

What appearance would that be Whitey?

They didn’t have much of a choice but to allow Malema if they said “no” he could simply come with busses full of blacks and that would have been an embarrassment. In the end Orania got some good marketing and Malema and Zuma conceded that if the Orania model of rural development of taking self-responsibility for your own community was practiced across Africa, poverty would be a thing of the past. Zuma for all he is and isn’t, he is not anti-Afrikaner as Mbeki was. Perhaps it is time for the Right-perspective to do a follow-up on Orania especially on the good growth they are having in terms of members as well as population and economical growth

Hopefully Julius (Ju-lie-to-us) took some valuable tips back after visiting Orania, I’ve seen that town with my own eyes and I’m proud to say that Afrikaaner people can achieve alot together, Orania is totally self sufficient… They have their own currency, own schools, own water works, own sewage plant, grow their own food..and so much more.

  12. Channi says

Oh and another thing…please don’t blame the goverment for the state that some townships are in!! Because Orania built their town without help from the South African goverment..
