Obama Border Plan Not Enough: Lieberman

Joe Lieberman

Joe Lieberman

US Senator Joe Lieberman has called Barack Obama‘s plan beef up security along the US-Mexico border inadequate and intends to get an additional US $385 million from Congress for border security.

Obama’s plan calls for 500 additional Customs and Border Patrol agents to be placed along the US-Mexico border and US $200 million to fight drugs-, people- and gun-smuggling. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has also committed US $80 million for Mexico to purchase Blackhawk helicopters from the US.

“I don’t think it’s enough,” said Lieberman, who chairs the Homeland Security Committee. “The danger here is clear and present. It threatens to get worse.” Lieberman’s plan calls for an additional 1,600 border agents to be hired.

Concern has been mounting as drug gang-related violence has spilled over the border from Mexico into the US.

Again, no mention of a fence-something that might actually work. But that would get in the way of amnesty, wouldn’t it?

Senator Joe Liberal man is a chairman of Fatherland insecurity who up until now has never spoken or done nothing regarding the security along the US-Mexico boarder. He wants additional 1,600 border agents. What will they do? Will they be able to shoot or just make faces at the drug cartel’s armed assault?
