Russia May Place Nuke Bombers In Cuba, Venezuela

chavez_putin090317The chief of staff of Russia’s long range aviation, Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev, has told reporters that Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez has offered Russia use of an entire island to place long-range nuclear bombing planes.

Zhikharev also included Cuba as another option later in his discussion.

Kremlin official Alexei Pavlov later downplayed Zhikharev’s statements as “technical possibilities”. Venezuelean officials refused comment, and Cuban officials could not be reached by reporters.

Obama spokesman for the National Security Council, Mike Hammer, said, “We do not comment on hypotheticals.”
