Sheikh Hasina: Possible Islamic Coup Prevented

Bangladesh may have prevented a Mubai-style terrorist attack intended to bring down its newly-elected government when it stopped a mutiny of its border guards who have been found to have ties to radical Islamic groups.

The mutiny has been tied to the Jumatul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB), also known as Jamaat-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh, according to Commerce Minister Farukh Khan. 74 people, mostly senior army officials, were killed in the uprising that occurred last month.

The discovery was made after interrogating 40 of the surviving mutineers. “We have found in the process of examining their files that some of them have links to the JMB,” said Khan.

The alleged core of the JMB is known as the Bangladesh National Party, which recently lost elections. The incident may have been part of a larger operation, such as a coup against the newly elected government of Sheikh Hasina.

Separate investigations are being carried out by the army, military and police. More than 1,000 search warrants have been issued. Scotland Yard has sent advisers and America has sent detectives to Bangladesh to help coordinate the investigations.

I guess 74 dead people is considered “Preventing”… this author is an ignorant Indian.

The JMB is a different party from the BNP… goes to show more Indian ignorance.

    India is a TERRORIST NATION!

I have no reason to consider India as a ‘terrorist nation’ although I acknowledge the existence of a minority Hindu extremist faction which I abhor similarly as I abhor the minority Muslim extremists in Bangladesh. The JMB *are* a separate party to the BNP although the 2 parties were in political alliance before the arrival of the caretaker government which preceded the current (BNP) government.

"war of terror" is no longer a "philosophy." JMB and BNP are seperate entity, although I dislike both. What happened in BDR camp, should and treated by Bangladeshi's as "war on antiBangladeshi forces," irrelevant of India or Pakistan. Stop this obsession of pro india or pro pakistan crap, its about Bangladesh, period.
