The United States will not be attending a UN-sponsored conference on racism set for April in Geneva, Switzerland, according to a US spokesman.
An anonymous senior US official had earlier told the Associated Press that his country would attend the conference unless its final document would be altered to drop all references to Israel and criticism of religion.
The conference is a follow-up to the contentious 2001 conference in the South African city of Durban which was dominated by clashes over the Middle East and the legacy of slavery. The United States and Israel walked out midway through that eight-day meeting over a draft resolution that singled out Israel for criticism and likened Zionism — the movement to establish and maintain a Jewish state — to racism.
Days later, the world was rocked by terrorist attacks in New York City on September 11th, 2001.
Israel and Canada have already announced that they will boycott the conference, known as Durban II, but Barack Obama’s administration decided to assess the negotiations before making a decision on US participation.

Every day that goes by reminds me why I'm glad I'm not a politician. They are the scum of the Earth.
This is exactly why America needs to get out of the U.N. and also to get out of the Middle East. Israel can fend for itself, I am sure there are millions of America taxpayers who are sick and tired of paying taxes,hearing about the “poor,oppressed jew,”and how “terrorist are tring to take away our freedoms. So far the only ones tring to take our freedoms, are the ones who say they will protect our freedoms, if we give them just a little more power or money.
