Some 77 farms owned by whites in Zimbabwe have been seized by Mugabe Regime henchmen in the last two weeks since a new coalition government was formed in the country, reports Commercial Farmers Union President Trevor Gifford.
The majority of the properties are owned by farmers who successfully sued the Mugabe Regime in an international regional court last November. That court, the Southern African Development Community (Sadc) Tribunal, ruled the Mugabe Regime had illegally expropriated the farms simply because their owners are White and must return them. The Regime has more or less ignored the court ruling and continued a racist campaign of harassment and vilification against the white farmers.
Gifford told the BBC that the farm seizures are being conducted by members of Mugabe political party Zanu-PF who are “using their offices to ensure ethnic cleansing can take place before the prime minister is able to stabilise the country”. The new prime minister of Zimbabwe is Mugabe rival Morgan Tsvangirai.
Calls by the BBC to both Zanu-PF and rival politicall party MDC for information on the farm seizures were unsuccessful.
Zimbabwe is plagued by out-of-control inflation and a rampant cholera epidemic that has killed thousands. Mugabe has blamed “racist” Great Britain for the epidemic says he was already wiped out the disease. A who’s who of world and African leaders have called for Mugabe to step down from power.
