Google Earth Reveals Atlantis ‘Glitch’

Google Earth’s new mapping of the planet’s sea floor terrain shows what some claim to be the fabled lost city of Atlantis, although Google contends what people are seeing is merely a glitch in the software program.

The area in question, commonly known as the Madeira Abyssal plane and located 620 miles west-west-east off the Canary Islands at the coordinates 31°15’15.53″ N, 24°15’30.53″ W, shows a perfectly-square “grid” roughly the size of Wales filled with what looks like underwater streets.

British tabloid The Sun fueled speculation by publishing an article that declared that the find on Google Earth made by British aeronautical engineer Bernie Bamford was actually the city of legends and myth. The article quoted Dr. Charles Orser, curator of historical archaeology at New York State University and authority on Atlantis legend, who declared the find to be “fascinating”.The Fun even included a fake opinion piece by Atlantis philosopher Plato.

Google released a press statement within hours of the discovery’s leaking out onto the Internet. “[W]hat users are seeing is an artifact of the data collection process,” Google said in its e-mailed statement. “Bathymetric (or sea-floor terrain) data is often collected from boats using sonar to take measurements of the sea floor. The lines reflect the path of the boat as it gathers the data. The fact that there are blank spots between each of these lines is a sign of how little we really know about the world’s oceans.”

People using Google Earth have discovered hidden marijuana fields, new speciesa suspected shipwreck site, and an ancient Roman villa.

I’ve never studied oceanography, but I did study enough geology to know that whatever has been called Atlantis didn’t end up on the abyssal plain. Too deep! I’ll accept Google’s explanation. The real truths about human history and this planet are amazing enough without ignorant fiction like this.

Has The Great Frank has stated ; Atlantis is the North American continent or The Great Northern Solutrea!
To directly quote Frank “The “Myth of Atlantis” and the story of “The Garden of Eden” are right beneath your feet! Those who returned to Europe, told of the wonderous land beyond the Pillars of Hercules, our Solutrea! It was a paradise, “The Garden of Eden”. No war, no famine, no hatred, a land of incredible peace and plenty of all! Hail Solutera! It is the REAL Atlantis!” That ‘s all you need to know folks! The Truth will be found eventually.

Assuming that Google’s explanation is correct, are there similar grids in other parts of the ocean? If no, have they only been collecting bathymetric data in the traditional location of Atlantis? If yes, can I please see some other marks made in another part of the ocean that were made by the same process?

Does anyone know how deep we are talking? The interesting thing is that over the last 10,000 years because of (natural) global warming and loss of unfathomable amounts of ice locked water the earth lost in the vicinity of one third (if not more) of his dry land mass, all of which would be costal. We can then draw the conclusion that yes ATLANTIS did not sink because we understand the rise of the ocean waters but to them it could have appeared from their perspective that it **sunk** which is not entirely inaccurate.

This sheds a new and interesting light on the lost city of Atlantis and I am more likely to believe in it unless this area is a mile under the water.
