Norwalk, Connecticut mayor Richard Moccia has blasted The Guardian Angels for their confrontation with angry youth Sunday, repeating his position that the self-imposed vigilante group is not needed in the city.
“I don’t think the Guardian Angels are needed in Norwalk, but they have a right to be here,” Moccia said. “I’m not happy there was a confrontation, but that’s the risk of what happens when you walk down the street with red berets, carrying walkie-talkies, in positions of authority.”
Mayor Moccia said back in October 2008 that the group sends the wrong message about the city and creates “liability problems”. Police Chief Harry Rilling also said at the time that he has “never been open to a chapter” and the group’s presence “was a niche reaction to a small spike in crime”.
Sunday’s confrontation marks the second time residents, who are supposedly protected by the Guardian Angels, have angrily reacted to the vigilante group. Members of the Guardian Angels were pelted with rocks and stones when they tried to distribute recruitment fliers in a local housing project. Police have ordered the group to stay away from public housing areas.

Good job Moccia. Why don’t you spend a night in that complex with the GOOD people who are stuck there, overrun by drug dealers and gangs. If the Guardian Angels are on hand to give ‘some’ confidence and to be ready to call local police, (not to intervene) when the police would not know otherwise of any incident until it’s too late, then I say let them stay until the gangs and drug dealers are run out.
The Guardian Angels are just a cash cow for Sliwa. Hey, why don't you become a cop? Scared? It's easier to "play" cop, than to become one and really fight crime! Sliwa found this out thirty years ago, and has made millions off of this bullshit story that he's been slinging to a gullible public and the morons who get exploited by his act. Hey, jerk, how many cops, who really "fight crime" have made millions off of what' they've done? How many have a radio show to sling the bullshit, make commercials, give speeches, endorsements, ect? NONE! Ever hear of Off. Steven McDonald? He got paralzed when a criminal shot him. Now that's are real HERO! And he doesn't give out bullshit like Sliwa. Moccia is a jackarse,the city hs turned into a very unsafe area,and thats the whole city.This shows investors to stay away the city isn’t worth spending a dime on.More local crime happens outside the front door of the police station and this mayor in his arogant way displays denial.
