Republican Illinois lawmakers are calling for the state’s new Senator, Roland Burris, to face perjury charges after he admitted to trying to raise money for impeached governor Rod Blagojevich.
Burris told the Illinois House committee overseeing the impeachment trial that he had never tried to raise money for Blagojevich. Burris also filed two affidavidts to that effect.
Burris came clean Monday, with a detailed recounting of how Blagojevich’s brother Rob proposed to Burris that he ask his friends for campaign contributions for Blagovejich. None of Burris’ friends would contribute. Burris claims he did not get a chance to tell the committee the whole story because of the way their questions were phrased, and filed an affidavit on Feb. 5 explaining everything.
However, the new information in Burris’ affidavit did not become public until a report was published by The Chicago Sun-Times Sunday.
Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross demanded Burris face perjury charges, and also blasted state house Democrats for not releasing Burris’ affidavit.
Burris remains vigilant in his stance that he has “done nothing wrong” and refuses to resign from his new Senate seat.

I guess we only have his word that he "tried" to raise funds and didn't actually do it. Given the veracity of everything else he's said about this debacle, you have to wonder about this contention as well.

They’re either doing that or giving the incompetent, corrupt, marxist ANC comrades a good go to top spot of world’s most corrupt political party…
