Earth Liberation Front (ELF) member Marie Mason has been sentenced to 22 years in prison for taking part in a 1999 New Year’s Eve arson attack on Michigan State University’s Agriculture Hall, which caused US $1 million in damages.
US District Judge Paul Maloney said Mason “elevated her grievances beyond the norms of civilized society”at the Feb. 5th sentencing. The case, which was prosecuted as domestic terrorism, was “about an abandonment of the marketplace of ideas,” Judge Maloney said. The sentence is more than what prosecutors wanted, who were asking for a 20-year sentence for Mason.
Mason and her then-husband Frank Ambrose set fire to offices that had extensive research on moth-resistant potatoes that were intended for poor parts of Africa. A mistake during the terrorist attack caused and explsion, nearly killing the two.
The investigation went unsolved until 2007, when discarded items from the attack were discoved in a trash container and later linked to Ambrose, who became an informant, going undercover to record 178 conversations with other activists. Ambrose turned witness against his ex-wife as part of a plea deal. Ambrose was sentenced to a nine-year sentence back in October 2008.
As part of her own plea deal, Mason admitted to causing another US$3 million in damage in other terrorist acts from 1999 to 2003, including destroying homes being built in Indiana and the Detroit area and burning down boats owned by a man who once raised minks. At the end of the sentencing hearing, Maloney contended she “meant to inspire thought and compassion, not fear”.
The Earth Liberation Front uses “economic sabotage and guerrilla warfare to stop the exploitation and destruction of the environment”, commonly known as monkeywrenching. The FBI has labeled the group domestic terrorsits and has been the number one domestic terrorist group since 2001.

What does a sentence like this one say about the value of human life? And funnily enough, that is what the LLL leftist liberal losers always shout – human rights!
