Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin has said the US should take a lesson from the pages of Russian history and not exercise “excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence”.
“In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute,” Putin said during a speech at the opening ceremony of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.”
Sounding more like Barry Goldwater than the former head of the KGB, Putin said, “Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors, and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.”
Putin also cautioned the US against using military Keynesianism to lift its economy out of recession, saying, “in the longer run, militarization won’t solve the problem but will rather quell it temporarily. What it will do is squeeze huge financial and other resources from the economy instead of finding better and wiser uses for them.” Putin’s comments come in sharp contrast to Russia’s own military buildup and expansion.
Putin also echoed the words of conservative maverick Ron Paul when he said, “we must assess the real situation and write off all hopeless debts and ‘bad’ assets. True, this will be an extremely painful and unpleasant process. Far from everyone can accept such measures, fearing for their capitalization, bonuses, or reputation. However, we would ‘conserve’ and prolong the crisis, unless we clean up our balance sheets.”
“The time for enlightenment has come. We must calmly, and without gloating, assess the root causes of this situation and try to peek into the future.”

I agree with Putin that there is such a thing as personal responsibility (isn’t that part of capitalism which most Americans stand for)? And thus, government should not use tax-dollars to bail any one industry out of debt. People losing their homes because they can’t afford it? Then let them learn to live within their means, instead of greed.
Well now I’ve seen it all – America, wake up!
Russia is more competitive than the former USSR simply because they are free and the USSR collapsed. geeze where you been living? under a rock? an example folks of why we need to get rid of publik ejucashun!!!!
Putin for President of the United States
Putin for President of the United States
Putin for President of the United States
the republicans of the past decade are just as guilty. This is not a “left vs. right” issue. It’s the people vs. the governement
Russia $70 billion in spending for $70 billion in military hardware
America $700 billion spending for $70 billion in military hardware
Putin also says later in the same speech:
“Our anti-crisis policy is aimed at supporting domestic demand, providing social guarantees for the population, and creating new jobs. Like many countries, we have reduced production taxes, leaving money in the economy. We have optimised state spending.”
Sounds identical to Obama here doesn’t he? Isn’t Obama cutting taxes for those making under $250k a year? Isn’t Obama “optimizing” state spending?
Putin sounds like Larouche.

A strange irony in history is not only how it repeats itself, but how villains and heroes change role. USA was once the bastion of the free market and today would make any Soviet Communist blush. While the free market and a small flat-tax allow Russia to flourish. Yesterday’s Germany featured a state specifically for “the Chosen” while today’s “Master Race” purge the Palestinian subhumans from the homeland of the new “Chosen”, Israel. The world never changes, only the roles switch…
he may have a good point in a context, but don’t think putin of russia is out to help the US in any way.
Abolish Federal Reserve
yes. Isn’t that what the people in power hope we do? Get on with our lives and forget all this nonsense! Meanwhile your rights are being taking away from you while you sleep away into Nirvana! Or maybe you are a turtle who hides in the shell all day hoping it will all go away! Meanwhile the economy is collapsing jobs are still in jepordy (don’t you see how this connects?) how else can you control the people except by making them completely dependent on (in this case) the government? Read your history books and I don’t mean the ones with the cartoon figures in them! This is exactly what happened when Hitler came to power. The people had no jobs the economy was bad and people needed a Savior. What they got instead was empty promises and a Holocaust! Next they’ll be sending us all to concentration camps and cooking us in their big ovens! I don’t recommend the showers either. I’ve heard their a gas! Anyway you wanna keep sticking your head in the sand go ahead if it brings you comfort, fact is the times they are a changing and I don’t like what I see on the horizon.
