Zimbabwe Hits 60,000 Cholera Infections

The World Health Organization‘s “worst case scenario” envisioned for Zimbabwe‘s cholera epidemic has come true now that 60,000 infections have been recorded by the group in the country.

The latest WHO report shows 60,401 Zimbabweans are now infected with the deadly water-borne disease, and 3,161 have died from it. Unofficial reports from doctors in Zimbabwe put the death toll at a much higher level.

Rampant hyper-inflation has destroyed Zimbabwe’s infrastructure, leaving many hospitals without the proper resources. Marxist Dictator Robert Mugabe has insisted the plague has been eradicated, and then scapegoated “racist” whites and Great Britain for the disease when shown to be wrong.

The UN aid agency said the cholera outbreak “showed no signs of abating” and called on the international community for urgent help.

“We are dealing with an extraordinary public health crisis that requires from us all an extraordinary public health emergency response, and this must happen now before the outbreak causes more needless suffering and death,”said the WHO’s Dr Eric Laroche.
