Illinois state Senators have voted unanimously, 59-0, to remove Rod Blagojevich from the governorship in impeachment hearings.
State Lietenant Pat Quinn was quickly sworn into power as the new governor after the vote.
Blagojevich did not take part in the trial, instead taking his case to the public on talk shows like The View and Larry King Live. Blagojevich did make a statement at the end of the trial, arguing he should not be thrown out of office on “inadequete evidence”.
“You haven’t proved a crime, and you can’t because it didn’t happen,” Blagojevich pleaded. “How can you throw a governor out of office with insufficient and incomplete evidence?”
The state Senators did not hear Blagojevich’s pleas and voted him out instead. One wished him luck in his next career in Hollywood.
