Outgoing US President George W. Bush has commuted the prison sentences of Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean, two US border patrol agents convicted in 2005 of shooting a Mexican drug runner.
The drug runner, Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, was shot in the buttocks by the border patrol agents while trying to flee along the Texas border. Ramos and Compean unsuccessfully argued they believed Davila was armed and they shot him in self defense. Davila himself admitted in court to smuggling tons of marijuana into the US and plead guilty to two related smuggling charges.
The ten-year prison sentence of Ramos and Compean became a cause de celebre among conservatives and American Nationalists, who argued the border agents were being punished to harshly. Many politicians, including nearly the entire Texas legislature, pleaded with President Bush to pardon or commute the sentences of Ramos and Compean.
The two will now be released in March of this year.

They should be given a presidential medal!
The question is not IF there will be an interdiction of Obama’s Presidency by the Supreme Court, the questions are WHEN and HOW that interdiction will transpire — that is, if the USA is to continue as the Constitutional Republic that now exists.
A ticker tape parade down Manhattan's canyon of heroes! These men are heroes in every sense of the word! Is the Constitution just a piece of paper? Or is it the guiding document that our nation lives by? Will we allow the Bolsheviki to trample upon this most sacred of all documents? The left changes the laws to suit themselves and therefore they don't live by the law, they mock the law!
Why would our court send these these guys to prison for defending their country? Very stupid. Even though they are getting out their patriotism may have fell a notch.
Commutation is not enough! These guys deserved a FULL pardon. They were patriots defending our country against illegal invaders.
Why did it take this long for them to be considered? We all knew it would happen. Why wait til the last minute? With all of the concern about border security and talk about the wall that was to be constructed between us and them they should never have served a day. By the way, Homeland security, whatever happened to that wall?
