Senate Democrats are looking for ways to save face as their opposition of embattled Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich‘s pick for Senator appears to be losing steam, say insiders.
Leading Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Rules Committee, now says that Roland Burris, chosen to take the place of US president-elect Barack Obama in the US Senate, should be seated. “If you don’t seat Mr. Burris, it has ramifications for gubernatorial appointments all over America,” she told reporters. “Mr. Burris is a senior, experienced politician. He has been attorney general, he has been controller, and he is very well-respected. I am hopeful that this will be settled.”
Top Senate officials from both parties now say Burris will likely be seated.
After a highly dramatic entry into the Senate Tuesday, Buress announced himself as the “junior Senator from the State of Illinois, only to be turned down by Democrats lead by Harry Reid. Burris then said he would probably sue for the seat,
