Avid “traditionalist” and ANC leader Jacob Zuma, a practicing polygamist already married to several other women, has set his sights on a fifth marriage, according to published reports.
Outsiders to the particular world of South African society, where polygamy is practised by “traditionalists”, might need a scorecard to keep up with Zuma’s unions.
He is still married to his first wife, Sizakele Khumalo, whom he met in 1959. Not much is seen of her as she stays out on Zuma’s rural home.
Zuma divorced his second wife, Foreign Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, in 1998 due to “irreconcilable differences”. They have four children.
Wife number three, Kate, killed herself in December 2000 apparently due to a strained relationship with Zuma. They have five children.
Zuma married his fourth wife, Nompumelelo Ntuli, almost exactly one year ago and say they are “still on their honeymoon”. They already have two children.
Durban newspaper The Mercury describes Zuma’s new wife, Thobeka Mabhija, as a “Durban socialite”.
There are also several other women rumored to be romantically linked to Zuma.
Zuma’s brother Michael confirmed that several “traditional” marriage customs are already underway but did not say exactly when the marriage would take place, only saying it would happen “one of these days”.
The question of which wife would become First Lady should Zuma become president was put to rest by an anonymous senior official in the Office of the Presidency, who said the role was a ceremonial one and Zuma could choose any one of his women to be the country’s first lady.
“There is no fast rule to say this can be done or cannot be done,” said the source, noting that Nelson Mandela chose one of his daughters for the role after he was separated from wife Winnie.
Many believe Zuma would choose his first wife as First Lady, based on the glowing praise he heaps on her in his public speeches.

I'm not surprised. He always was a handome devil!
Dlamini-Zuma is the same minister referred to in the Security Council post. The one praising South Africa’s stint in the UNSC.
So not only does he have to look after the wives, but also the ex-wives with high profile positions such as Foreign Affairs minister.
South Africa is a very good place to be if you have the right connections.
Is that his wife? Looks like she could use Weight Watchers!
He should be free from AIDS- as long as he takes a shower after he screws her! Um-shini-wam! Or rapes a virgin!
I am not surprised. But i just wonder why you have to be so nasty. would you be if it was another person?
the baga likes fucking thats all
the baga likes the feel of a different pussy every now and again………….what an asshole to be in a adership role.
He’s better than all of you with your different mistresses and your secret patronage of hookers
One question: Why should I pay tax, which wouldn’t've existed in a traditiomal community, so someone else can basically exhaust his priveleges, and mine, in the name of a tradition? Our president is playing with fire. It just shows what a joke our religeous institutions are. I mean, this man, who shamelessly break every commandment there is, is a honourary pastor. I don’t get it! I’m not infallable, but, you kinda know what I try to say. Blatant hypocricy is being commited and, I’m sorry to say this, you must be an epic retard to keep on voting for someone with quadrouple standards that basically lies with each breath he gives.
HE’S WIVES ARE PIGS AS LONG AS HE WASHES HIS….AND THEIR ASSS….IS HIS GABAGE
wow, what a president.how does he handle all five of them? the bible says a man shall leave his family n stay with his wife[not wives] n they sahll become one,how many ones are there,y so many wifes, which ones does he take fro granted n which one does he give his time to? when does he get to do his job as the country's president? sorry all Zulus for sounding like i disrespect your culture but please think before you marry 2 women, agreeing to get involve with a polygamist or giving ur child to one.
Félicitation Mr. Zuma
The critics on polygamy were equally voiciferous in the latest instance of the issue (as they were last year in January prior to the elections). The head of the pack this time was the leader of the Christian Democratic Party (CDP), Reverend Theunis Botha. He had basically accused Zuma of taking Africa back to the “dark ages”.
We recently ran a poll on the subject of Zuma’s polygamy on the Wonkie cartoon blog which covers a good cross section of the South African public. The results were surprisingly split quite evenly between (a) indifference/ I’m ok with it; (b) thinking polygamy was morally backward; (c) perfectly acceptable and happy to engage in the practice; and (d) an unfair practice toward women.
For a lighter look at the single Zulu male view on President Zuma’s polygamy check out the cartoon at http://www.wonkie.com/2010/01/07/zuma-leads-the-way-with-polygamy/
as our president he is setting a very bad example for the younger generation, I thought the whole thing wasn’t to promote safe sex and sex with one partner but then again the intelligence doesn’t rain very far. Jacob zuma is promoting unsafe sex and sex with anything and anyone and having as many children as you like, never mind the fact that it’s the children’s lives that getting ruined but that doesn’t matter after all taking a shower fixes everything.
