ANC World Cup Whistle-Blower Shot Dead

Jimmy Mohlala

Jimmy Mohlala

A senior ANC member who became a whistle-blower over corruption surrounding the upcoming World Cup games was shot dead in front of his home Sunday evening.

Jimmy Mohlala, speaker of the Mbombela municipality in Nelspruit, charged Mbombela municipal manager Jacob Dladla, with a wide range of corruption and abuses of power relating to the building of a billion-rand football stadium built especially for the World Cup.

Instead of punishing Dladla, who is well-connected within the ANC, Party officials instead recommended the firing of Mohlala and municipal mayor Justice Nsibande, another whistle blower. Mohlala refused calls by the ANC to step down.

Police say Mohlala was gunned down by two men wearing balaclavas and lying in wait. Mohlala’s son was also wounded in the shooting and is recovering in hospital.

stupid fuckin sports scandals.. all this cuz u can gamble on this shit… if no money was involved in betting there would be no corruption there fore no death!

  5. Steve says

Why is it that this sport inspires such utter insanity?

  6. Christian says

World Cup oblivion in the US is nearing it’s end. Looks like the USA will put another bid for the 2014 World Cup. Let’s hope no one is shot here.

  7. Jim says

Do you really think that a 1 billion rand corruption scandal is about sport? According to the article it’s about corruption in construction. At least rant about the factual content instead of pulling “sports scandals” out of the air.

sigh I live in South Africa, and I didn’t actually find that shocking…..not saying that it’s a good thing, but it gives people a good impression on how politics in SA works.

People are too afraid to talk about because you’d get fired and threatened with violence!

On the bright side, it can also unite people. Look at the 2005 Rugby World cup, and what it did for South Africa. Clint Eastwood’s even making a movie about it.

It’s a tragedy that the ANC has gone from hero to zero.

I don’t think this is anything to do with the sport of football – it’s all about the money and power. It’s not to do with gambling either, this is all before a ball has been kicked. Any large infrastructure project has the potential for this type of graft. Unfortunately Africa is more affected with graft than other places in the world.

It isn’t so much that it’s football, and more than the guy was corrupt and was exploiting the billion rand stadium.

Here’s an example of another African country that will never bring itself out of the stone age if it keeps this up. This kind of rampant corruption and violence fortifies my personal beliefs that I should never visit Africa.

  15. Marisa says

This has nothing to do with the sport, but everything to do with just how corrupt the ANC has become. No wonder some of the original founders are leaving and starting a new party!

  16. Classifieds says

Shame there are not more details about exaclty what whistle-blowing he did, who was involved and who benefits from his death.
…. still getting over the fact that South Africa were picked to host ANY sporting event.

    @ Dominika

You have already questioned the validity of facts in another post regarding the South African history. Let me bring you up to speed.

There was no World Cup in South Africa in 2005. You are probably referring to the Rugby World Cup of 1995 in South Africa. To state that it united people is a farce. The ANC was only in charge for a year, so the damage of their ways couldn’t have been evident yet.

Also, there are vast differences between football and Rugby Union, especially in South Africa, where the majority of blacks support football and whites rugby union.

There is no way you can begin to compare RWC 1995 and Football / Soccer World Cup of 2010.

  19. FrankVanQueens says

When the World Cup comes to Suid Afrika, it will be a propaganda bonanza for the ANC. The Ministry of Lies will point to how much phony “progress” there has been and how they’ve overcome the bad old days of “Apartheid”. The country will then be offically changed to “Anzania”, Rather, it’s proper name under the outlaw, thug, corrupt ANC should be “INSANIA”! Guilt ridden Whites will eat it up in the West, not realizing that they have contributed to the downfall of a civilized nation!

It is all Jacob Zuma doing, he started all of this. There should be a list put together of the the ANC members charged with corruption, im sure that list will never end. Im glad I left that country years ago, anyone other than ANC should also leave. I was a member and my dad gave them millions and help fight the struggle, it did not pay of. the Top level black ANC need to go back to school or get some Education Whites and Indians to run that country, they will do a better job. Mr Madiba my inspiration please give your members som common sense.

Lets start spreading the guys information around and have everyone ask him why he is raping his people. And now had this good moral man killed. Its the internet we should take action and Unite using our power to create change and right a wrong. This dude should be in jail already and lose his job.
