FBI data analysed by criminal experts shows an increase of 34% in the number of homicides committed by black teenagers between the ages of 14 and 17. The number of black teens killed in the same age group rose by 39%. This is in stark contrast with overall figures for murder and violent crimes decreasing for the period 2000 to 2007 in the US.
Criminal expert professors James Alan Fox and Marc Swatt of Northeastern University in Boston indicate that the trend could be attributable to a lack of federal funding for schemes to help troubled youngsters. They said that funds have been prioritised elsewhere since the 9/11 terror attacks. Professor Fox said that “we either pay for these programmes now or pray for the victims later. Crime doesn’t wait until the economy improves.”
Corresponding statistics for white teenagers between 14 and 17 years of age show an increase of 3% in the number of homicides committed while the number of white teens killed in this age group increased by 17%.
There seems to be no opinion regarding the disparate effect on these groups if it is indeed accepted that the lack of federal funds is to be blamed for the disturbing statistics.

They got that stat from black teenage girls. In 2004 there were 34 per 100,000 murders in 2005 it is 55 per 100,000.
For some perspective those two years white females 14 to 17 2004 was 54 murders per 100,000 and 2005 it dropped to 44 in 100,000. So in 2004 and 2005 you were more likely to be killed by a 14-17 year old white girl than a 14-17 yr old black girl.

If you look at that chart that small spike at the end of 2005 is indead a small spike. But the much larger trend is huge drops in murders among black teenagers. If you wanted you could argue that White teenage girls are more violent due to their numbers not dropping as far or fast as every other demographic. Just ludacris.
Remember the people who make the 'news' are trying to sell newspapers or comercials so the most flashy scary stories will always be skewed so that they become interesting.
