US Assistant Secretary of State Jendayi Fraser said Sunday that America will not lift sanctions on Zimbabwe while Marxist Dictator Robert Mugabe remains in power because he “has lost touch with reality“.
“We have lost confidence in the power-sharing deal being a success with Mugabe in power. He has lost touch with reality,” Fraizer said during a visit to South Africa. Mugabe has embarked on a murderous campaign of terror against supporters of rival political party Movement for Democratic Change ever since he lost open elections in April 2008. Mugabe has declared Zimbabwe his own domain in the face of calls from world and African leaders for his removal.
“Zimbabwe is plagued by out-of-control inflation and a rampant cholera epidemic that has killed hundreds. Mugabe has blamed “racist” Great Britain for the epidemic says he was already wiped out the disease.
“We were prepared to use the American influence to negotiate with the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund to clear the $1.2bn Zimbabwe debt, but now we are no longer prepared to do that,” Fraser said.
