News/Talk Most Popular Radio Format

A new survey of radio station formats in America puts news/talk radio at the top of list, beating out country music for the first time.

M Street, which keeps track of formats run on US radio stations, says news/talk has gained 250 stations in the past 5 years and 450 in the last decade.

Country is still king among music formats, with Contemporary Christian coming in at number two with a bullet, followed by Spanish, Adult Contemporary, and top 40.

Jazz, which never has fared well, lost stations in key urban markets, including New York and Philadelphia.
