Although the responsibilities and workload Hillary Clinton will have at her new job as Secretary of State will be the same as Condoleeza Rice, Clinton will earn about $4,700 less – to keep her nomination within the guidelines of the US Constitution.
The Emoluments Clause of the US Constitution, forbids a Senator or Representative from taking a government position whose pay was increased during the lawmaker’s current term. Because Clinton was a Senator when a cost-of-living adjustment was given to the Secretary of State, it would mean she could not take the position.
The House and Senate voted for a “Saxbe Fix” Wednesday night, which lowered the yearly salary of Secretary of State from $191,300 to $186,600, which is the pay level when Clinton began her second term in January 2007.
The new pay level is still more than the $169,300 a year Clinton earns as a Senator.

That's no problem for Hill. I'll bet she has saved all of Bill's underware since leaving the White House.
