The US Supreme Court has rejected New Jersey resident Leo Donofrio’s lawsuit challenging President-elect Barack Obama’s eligibility to hold office based on his “natural born” status.
Donofrio claims that because Obama’s father was a Kenyan citizen, Obama held dual citizenship at birth and therefore is not a “natural born citizen” – a constitutional requirement for holding the office of President of the United States. Obama’s own “Fight The Smears” website has confirmed the President-elect was a Kenyan citizen until 1982. Obama’s Kenyan grandmother also confirmed he was born in Kenya.
The original “natural born” lawsuit, filed by Democrat activist lawyer Phil Berg still sits in the Supreme Court, waiting a response from the Obama camp. The lawsuit filed by Berg claims the birth certificate posted on the Obama campaign website is a forgery, and also claims Obama may in fact be an Indonesian citizen. Obama’s birth certificate has been sealed by Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle.
Seventeen other “natural born” lawsuits are making their way through American courts, including one filed by former Obama Senate rival Alan Keyes.
