Russia President Dmitry Medvedev has announced the deployment of missiles in the Kalingrad region as a direct response to US missile defense plans for Poland and the Czech Republic.
Medvedev did not say how many short-range Iskander missiles would be deployed to Russia’s Baltic Sea area, and whether they were armed with nuclear warheads or not.
The Russian deployment includes navy resources and equipment to electronically hamper the operation of prospective US missile defense facilities in Poland and the Czech Republic.
