In what civil rights leader John Lewis is calling “a nonviolent revolution”, Barack Hussein Obama has won the Presidency of the United States, becoming the nation’s first non-White President.
Obama’s win is an electoral blowout, with the Democrat wining 338 electoral votes to Republican John McCain’s 141 as of this writing. Obama also won the popular vote by close to 4 million votes.
Making the loss his own in his concession speech, McCain said Obama has achieved a “great thing” and urged supporters to put aside partisan differences and work to get “the country moving again.” Outgoing President George W. Bush congratulated Obama on an “awesome night” in a phone call.
Questions still surround Obama’s qualification to hold office based on his “natural born” status, as well as what American economic and foreign policy will become in an Obama nation.
