ANC To Ethnically Cleanse Eastern Cape Town Names

Acting Eastern Cape Arts and Culture MEC, Sam Kwelita, says most Eastern Cape cities and towns will have their English and Afrikaaner names removed and given new ones to reflect a “shared multicultural existence”.

Port Elizabeth and East London are among the cities slated for renaming. Kwelita says they have been specifically targeted for their “colonial names”. Eastern Cape Geographical Names Committee Chair, Fumanekile Dyubele, calls the English and Afrikaaner names “irrational”, adding, “A name is about history and heritage of a country, the identity of people living in that area”.

Last week, black police officers beat on White and Afrikaaner residents in Pretoria who attended a meeting addressing names changes to streets in the city.
