An Orange Farm rally for the ANC-breakaway political party led by Mosiuoa Terror Lekota ended in violence and death after ANC supporters attempted to break up the event.
A woman siding with the pro-Lekota faction was killed in the clash, which was quickly condemned by South African interim President Kgalema Motlanthe. The murder has been hushed up by the South African media.
Concerns of a civil war breaking out between the rival factions, particularly along tribal lines, have increased after the incident. The militant ANC Youth League has promised to kill for ANC leader] Jacob Zuma and ANCYL Limpopo Chair Lehlogonolo Masoga has called on members to “kill” the opposition.
Lekota has vowed to fight on, saying he and his supporters “will not be intimidated”.
