Former New Mexico Senator Manny Aragon, pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy and mail fraud in a corruption case centered on building a courthouse.
The 61-year old Democrat was accused of taking $650,000 in an alleged scheme with four others to bilk the state out of $4.2 million during construction of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Courthouse.
In exchange for his plea to three felony counts of conspiracy and mail fraud, other charges against Aragon were dropped. Aragon faces 5½ years in prison as part of a plea deal, federal prosecutor Jonathon Gerson said.
