Concerns for the right to Free Speech in America in an Obama nation have been raised once again after Federal agents launched an investigation into a Florida sheriff after he used Barack Obama’s natural born middle name, Hussein.
Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott dared to use Barack Hussein Obama’s full birth name when he appeared at a rally for GOP VP candidate Sarah Palin on Monday, October 6. “On Nov. 4, let’s leave Barack Hussein Obama wondering what happened,” Sheriff Scott said while introducing Palin. The crowd of more than 8,000 supporters cheered wildly.
Since then, a snivelstorm of liberal whiners have clogged newspaper columns and message boards with cries of “veiled racism” on behalf of the McCain campaign.
While there is no law on the books against using a presidential candidate’s full birth name, federal election law has something called the Hatch Act. This law does allow for local and state officials to “actively campaign for candidates for public office in partisan and nonpartisan elections” but does not allow for “official authority or influence to interfere with or affect the results of an election or nomination”. Because Sheriff Scott appeared at the Palin rally in official uniform, liberal whiners have flooded the US Special Counsel’s office complaining he violated the Hatch Act.
Officials with the U.S. Office of Special Counsel say they have received so many phone calls from the public that they launched an investigation into Sheriff Scott on Tuesday.
In a written response, Sheriff Scott said, “I am on duty 24/7 and 365 whether in or out of uniform [....] As of this writing, I am unaware of having done anything to generate all this attention other than using the senator’s full name.”
