Since the implosion of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae over the past few weeks, the American political scene has gotten to know one Gregory Meeks, who has been made famous for attacking Armando Falcow, the oversight director for Fannie Mae:

We New Yorkers have been well aware of Rep. Meeks, who represents southeastern Queens, for some time now. While Democrats constantly accuse Republicans of being subservient to corporations and doing their bidding, a New York Post article of Wednesday, June 26, 2002, titled, “Junket Junkie, Meeks Inherits The Earth,” page 21, exposes how Democrats are constantly traveling around the world on corporate freebies (a similar article was written by the NY Daily News in 2005). Queens Democratic Congressman, Gregory Meeks and his wife, Simone-Marie, went to Taiwan, Dallas, Charleston, S.C., Houston and Puerto Rico in 2000, courtesy of corporations or groups with an interest in lobbying them. On his own, Meeks also went to Miami, London, and Puerto Rico two other times. After nine junkets in 2001, Meeks and his wife got off to a quick start in 2002. They accepted an all-expenses-paid trip to New Orleans and a $13,556 week long tour of London and Malaysia.
But that isn’t all.
Bronx Democrat, Eliot Engel, brought his wife, Patricia, to Wyoming and West Virginia, and went on his own to Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston and Ukraine in 2001.

Greg Meeks spokesman, Mike McKay, said most of the trips were aimed at helping people in the district, minority businesses or overall economic development. McKay said Meeks’ visits to Puerto Rico, two of which were paid for by the Vieques Legal Defense Fund, were to show support for the anti-bombing campaign on Vieques, while his hop to Miami was aimed at diversifying the travel industry.
So all these left wing elected officials spend half their time running all over the world to work against the best interests of the United States.
