Democrats have proven that winning the 2008 US presidential election is more important than protecting American children from online predators.
The bi-partisan Securing Adolescents from Exploitation Online Act passed through Congress last Decemember by a stunning 409-2. It looked to reform the process of finding and identifing those who spread child pornography by expanding reporting requirements for child sex exploitation and child pornography, requiring providers to disclose the identity of anyone who appears to have violated child porn laws, directing the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to report child pornography violations to law enforcement, and granting service providers and NCMEC limited immunity from civil and criminal liability for reporting information. In a great show of crossing party lines, the bill was sponsored by Republican presidential candidate John McCain and cosponsored by Democrats Hillary Clinton and Chuck Schumer. Senate Majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat, promptly killed it.
Another bill, S. 1738, addresses many of the same issues as the McCain-sponsored bill. S. 1738 was sponsored by Democrat Party VP candidate Joe Biden and is cosponsored by Democrat Party presidential candidate Barack Hussein Obama. Oddly enough, Harry Reid is planning to hold a vote on S. 1738. And, oh yeah, Oprah Winfrey spent an entire show promoting S. 1738.
An alternative bill sponsored by Senator Tom Coburn has been voted down twice by the Democrat-controlled Congress.
