Obama Targets Talk Radio For Dissent, Again

For the second time in a month, the Obama campaign has targeted a Chicago talk radio station for its airing of voices that are critical of the Democrat Party presidential candidate, throwing into further question what kind of free speech Americans would have in an Obama nation.

WGN-AM, “The Voice of Chicago,” had author David Freddoso on the station between 9pm and 11pm Chicago time. In an e-mail to supporters, the Obama campaign blasted Freddoso as having “made a career off dishonest, extreme hate mongering”. The Obama campaign urged supporters “to make sure his baseless lies don’t gain credibility”.

This past August 27, the Obama campaign targeted WGN-AM for interviewing Stanley Kurtz, a conservative writer who examined Obama’s ties to former 1960s radical William Ayers. The station was flooded with e-mails from Obama supporters, who also made it impossible for the station to take phone calls during the interview by clogged the phone lines.

These tactics worry some First Amendment advocates, who believe that Obama will attempt to limit Free Speech in America should he take office. A lot has been made recently of Democrats bringing back The Fairness Doctrine and implementing “hate speech” laws. “It’s just a matter of time before Team Obama shuts us all down,” writes National Review Online reporter Jim Geraghty.
